Garaha Jupiter

Jupiter is the lord of Sagittarius and Pisces, which are Dwiswabhava (common) signs. The element (tattwas) of Jupiter is Ether. Jupiter is exalted at 5 degrees Cancer and debilitated at 5 degrees Capricorn. The day of week ruled by Jupiter is Thursday, Guruwar.

Here is going to show how to calculate it.
The formula = quotient [difference between (the longitude of the Sun from Aries) and (the longitude of the Moon from Aries) / 720 minutes] + 1.
minus 15 if more than 15.

The example:

The Sun is in 12 degree 14 minutes Virgo and the Moon is in 14 degree 52 minutes Libra. What tithi is it?
The longitude of the Sun is 9734 minutes (162*60+14).
The longitude of the Moon is 11692 minutes (194*60+52).
The difference between Sun and Moon is 1958 minutes.
The quotient is 2 (1958/720).
The tithi is Triteeya (2+1).

Garaha Mercury

Mercury in Sanskrit is Buddha which means "intellect". Mercury is the speech of Kalapurusha.

Mercury has dual nature. Mercury can become either benefic or malefic. Mercury is the lords of Gemini and Virgo, which are Dwiswabhava (common) signs. The element of Mercury is Earth. The formula = quotient [(the longitude of the Sun from Aries + the longitude of the Moon from Aries) / 800 minutes] + 1.
minus 27 if more than 27.

The example:

The Sun is in 22 degree 30 minutes Gemini and the Moon is in 17 degree 56 minutes Capricorn. What yoga is it?


The longitude of the Sun is 4950 mintues (30*2*60+22*60+30). The longitude of the Moon is 17276 minutes (30*9*60+17*60+56).
The sum of the longitude of the Sun and the Moon is 22226 minutes.
22226/800 = 27.7825 (22226 divides 800).
The quotient is 27.
27+1-27 = 1.
The Yoga is Vishkambha.

Gandanta

Gandanta is combined by two words "Ganda" and "anta". Ganda means "the node/the knot" and anta means "the end".

Gandanta is happened the planet between these signs, Meena/Mina and Mesha, Karkata and Simha, Vrischika and Dhanu and the node at zero degree of Mesha, Simha, or Dhanu is also called Brahma randhra (eye of Brahma). The gandanta is happened when the transition is from watery element to fiery element.
